Two unidentified men were detained late Monday evening after robbing a store in a Zagreb neighborhood.

The two masked perpetrators committed armed robbery of a convenience store in Ivana Mažuranića street in Zagreb just before midnight, physically assaulting at least one of the two female clerks at the store. The unlikely twist came, however, as soon as the two masked men left the scene of the crime and entered their getaway vehicle, a Mercedes Benz with Zagreb licence plates.

Two patrol officers were just entering their parked police vehicle at the time and saw the perpetrators attempt their escape in the Mercedes Benz. The getaway vehicle then drove in the direction of the police patrol, despite shouting from the police officers to stop. The getaway vehicle then rammed straight into the police vehicle, after which the police officers fired a warning shot at the suspects and tackled them to the ground and placed them under arrest.

According to regional CNN affiliate N1, the store clerk was lightly injured and has received medical attention.
