Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan informed media on Tuesday that Turkey has signed a deal with Russia to purchase an S-400 anti-aircraft missile defense system. Erdogan added that a down payment for the system has already been made.
The deal comes amidst an expected improvement of relations between the two countries, which were tense after a May 2015 incident in which a Russian fighter jet was shot down by Turkish forces in Syrian air space, near the Turkish border, in 2015.
Macedonian Meta.mk news agency reports that this is the sale of the top-of-the-line defense system is the biggest deal to date between Ankara and Moscow.
