While attending the 72nd session of the U.N. General Assembly in New York, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs Péter Szijjártó signed an agreement on Monday to establish diplomatic relations with the Western Pacific island nation of Palau.

Szijjártó sees economic opportunities in the region for Hungary, in particular in terms of water management technology that Hungary has to offer. Hungarian equipment for water management is already being used by Indonesia and Palau is located in an area with frequent extreme weather conditions, making water management solutions significant.

The Minister said he hopes to see economic relations for Hungary and other countries in this region grow in the near future.
