According to Bulgarian news site Dnevnik.bg, Bulgaria’s President Rumen Radev stated in an interview on national Nova TV on Wednesday that “Bulgaria’s relations with Russia should not become a hostage to foreign interests.” In the television appearance, Radev elaborated on the issue by saying that, for some officials and politicians in Bulgaria, it seemed that relations with Russia “could never be bad enough.”

The Bulgarian President expressed that he would like to see an improvement of relations with Russia and that many European leaders would agree with him, repeatedly citing a recent quote allegedly said by Luxembourg’s Prime Minister Xavier Bettel, that “it is time to stop talking about Russia and begin talking to Russia.”
